Modus and Matt make Breakfast Event a Success

BUSINESS BREAKFAST COOKS UP A STORM

Businesses from across the region scrummed down with former England star Jason Leonard and were given plenty of food for thought over breakfast as the Warriors Business Club held its first official event.

The business community were out in force at Sixways Stadium on January 23 for the sell-out networking event ‘A Full English with Jase’, organised by Worcester scrum half Matt Powell.

First team ace Powell has been looking at his own self development and broadening his horizons away from rugby, with the full support of the management team at Warriors and Professional Rugby Players’ Association (PRA).

Powell decided to organise the charity business networking event in aid of the Wooden Spoon after working with local firm Modus Creative, official creative partner to Worcester Warriors, and with the support of regional law firm MFG Solicitors.

“It was fantastic to see the business community turn out in such large numbers to support the first event of its kind in the Warriors Business Club and raise over £5,000 for the Wooden Spoon at the same time,” said Powell.

The event saw guests network with like-minded professionals in the exclusive Warriors Business Club – launched with the help of the Chamber of Commerce, Herefordshire & Worcestershire - before listening to World Cup winner Leonard talk about his transition from rugby to business.

Powell also invited inspirational speaker former SAS Captain Floyd Woodrow to talk about 'staying in front of the competition in both a battle arena and in business’.

Roger Marshall, Modus’ Managing Director, admitted he had been delighted with the big turnout and hinted that another breakfast event could take place later in the year.

“The atmosphere was energetic and the Warriors Business Club was a perfect venue for such an event. In the present financial climate, the feel was upbeat and positive and we hope guests went away with some new contacts and business.”

Guy Marson, Director at Modus added: “Working with Matt over these past five months has been great and he has become very much a part the Modus team. He pulled together a tremendous networking event that saw local business positively buzz.

“Floyd Woodrow and Jason Leonard were the perfect balance as guest speakers and the feedback we have received has been fantastic. With Matt’s hard work and campaigning along with the auction we have raised a fantastic sum for the Wooden Spoon.

John Gibson from Wooden Spoon was delighted at the money raised which he said would have a major impact on less abled children in the local community.

“What a great event! We raised a significant sum and Jason articulated to the business community what Spoon is doing in Worcestershire and beyond. Wooden Spoon and Rugby have very strong links and the event demonstrated what can be achieved.”

The business breakfast was supported by MFG and Iain Morrison added: “MFG Solicitors consider it a great honour and privilege to have had the opportunity to sponsor such a prestigious and successful event with Modus Creative.

“The number of guests who attended far exceeded our expectations. Our thanks to Jason Leonard, Floyd Woodrow and last, but not least, Matt Powell for making it such an enjoyable morning and raising funds for the Wooden Spoon charity.”
